Past Events

This week, BOSSO hosted another special speaker who came out to speak on what it takes to build a sports business career, among many other things: Mark Pannes. Mark began his career within the global sports industry, working with the Knicks, AC Roma, Whitecaps, and many other organizations within the NBA and MLS. Currently the managing partner at Inner Market Media and renowned as a global sports media executive, Mark gave insights on the evolution of commercial strategy within pro sports, how teams and leagues drive growth in a rapidly growing market, and the current state of the overall sports media landscape.

AUSL Project

In addition, BOSSO has recently launched a fan engagement project in partnership with Athletes Unlimited Softball League (AUSL). In this project, BOSSO is aiming to grow AUSL’s fan engagement by analyzing digital fan behavior, sports consumption trends, and live-game experiences to hone in on strategies that will expand reach and fan retention. With AUSL’s promising brand identity (only pro softball league; ESPN recognized) and the rising interest in women’s softball, the advancement of this project will drive brand new avenues and merchandise improvements within AUSL’s marketing structure. By doing so, unique opportunities such as further channels to feed AUSL’s social media, content differentiation, community engagement, and pushing one of the first big leagues in women’s softball will soon be capitalized on.

Member Spotlight

For our next membership spotlight, meet Hudson Harp from Waco, Texas. Hudson is a freshman Communication and Leadership major. Despite being from Texas, Hudson’s favorite sports teams include the Atlanta Falcons, Braves, and Liverpool FC. Hudson is currently a general member working on the football project, focusing on statistical answers to questions about the sport. He is looking forward to networking and learning more from those in professional roles. Hudson’s favorite memory of BOSSO thus far was attending the Business of Sports Summit, where he got to meet many talented people and network. Hudson’s hottest take is that no team should ever go for it on 4th down unless it's absolutely necessary. He believes that being aggressive can be fun when it works out, but ultimately proves more detrimental in the long run.
